Description
- A bird jar and cover
cover incised 'Martin Bros.- London & Southall, 9-1898', base incised 'Martin Bros. London & Southall, 9-1898'
- 35.5cm. high overall;
- 1ft 2in.
stoneware, modelled with sly expression and pronounced eyebrows, his feathers and feet finely detailed, on ebonised wood base
Condition
A well modelled example in good condition. The blue details on the birds chest are more pronouced than they appear in the catalogue illustration. There is a firing flaw visible on the interior rim. There are several other firing flaws to the interior. There is a short firing flaw to the feathers on the back of the bird's leg, but this is not unsightly. The base is fixed to the ebonised stand by old screws. There is some slight wear to the ebonised base. But overall a good example.
