mounted on wood backing board, with silver frame struck with French hallmarks, surmounted by shell shaped suspension loop

Overall condition good with no evidence of retouching except for revarnishing.

Catalogue Note
Son of the Flemish painter Francois Stella, Jacques Stella moved to Rome in the 1623 following seven years working in the Medici granducal workshop in Florence where he became proficient at painting on hardstones and slate. In 1635 he returned to France and became court painter to Louis XIII.
