Catalogue Note

The present panel appears to come from the same series as twelve stained glass panels in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, illustrated by M. H. Calviness et al.  A further sixteen panels are in the Park Avenue Baptist Church, New York, installed in the late nineteenth century. These panels were attributed to Dirk Vellert by A. E. Bye in the Art Bulletin XI (1923) pp.124-45 and to Jan van Rillaer by A. E. Popham of the British Museum. Bernard van Orley who was working within the circle of van Rillaer was also mooted as another source.
