the mitre intricately worked with simulated jewels and intricate foliate decoration, mounted on a modern base
Condition
This fragmentary head has chips to the top and sides of the mitre. An area of restoration above the nostrils is just evident. General chips and scratches consistent with age, traces of gesso to the face and yellow to the mitre.

This stone head was probably originally held by a decapitated bishop saint. Note the bishop saint by Antoine Le Moiturier in the Musée des Moulins Allier illustrated by Boccador.
