Condition
Overall the condition of the terracotta is good. There is some wear to the surface consistent with age. There are very small chips scattered across the surface, some of which have been filled with plaster.

Catalogue Note
This relief relates to the large marble relief of Eustace in the Lion's den left unfinished by Melchior Caffa and completed circa 1660 by Ercole Ferrata in Santa Agnese in Piazza Navonna, Rome. Another version of this terracotta fragment is in the Liebighaus Frankfurt illustrated by Götz-Mohr.
