Description

  • a bronze group of Nessus and Deianara
  • After Giambologna (1529-1608)
on ebonised wood plinth set with pink marble panels

Condition

The overall condition of the bronze is good. Surface dirt in particular to crevices. Evidence of drying and blemishes to the surface of the patina (probably caused by damp conditions). Deianara's arms have been cast separately and attached at the upper arms and the attachment line is faintly visible. The tip of her left thumb is missing ( probably a casting flaw) . Rectangular patch on underside of the belly of the centaur for removal of the core.
