Description
- a gilt bronze figure of St. John the Baptist
Catalogue Note
Wixom notes seven variants of this model which he dates to the 16th century emanating from a Venetian workshop. All are based on the earlier Tuscan, probably Siena, model from the Milliken collection in the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Another version of this bronze but with a lamb at his feet was sold in these rooms on the 22 April 1986 lot 105.
