Condition

Unexamined out of frame and under glass, the mounted sheet appears sound apart from a small diagonal tear (approx. 3cm.) to the lower left corner. There some light discolouration and some scattered foxing, notably to the upper left corner. Held in a simple, blue-painted wood frame with a smoke blue slip, under glass.

Catalogue Note

One of the finest mansions along the Bosphorus, the summer residence of the Russian Embassy was situated in the bay of Büyükdere. The building is illustrated in Antoine-Ignace Melling's Voyage pittoresque de Constantinople et des rives du Bosphore, published with its complete engravings in 1819.
