Condition
The canvas has been relined. There is some scattered retouching visible under ultraviolet light, mainly to the sky, partially obscured by a varnish. This work is in overall good condition, with only some scattered craquelure and some light surface dirt that could easily be cleaned. Held in a decorative, striated, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame.

Catalogue Note
Painted in 1884, Trübner captured all the hustle and bustle of late nineteenth century London with its carriage traffic, steam engines, and shop signs. It is interesting to compare the artist's view of his "modern" London with its appearance after 120 years (fig. 1)
