Catalogue Note
Between September and October of 1937, Weston and Charis Wilson traveled in northern California, making their way toward Oregon. Conger notes that they stopped in Bodega State Park, on the coast just north of San Francisco, where Weston took several photographs of the surf as it made its way to the rocks at Duncan's point. Three of the photographs form a sequence of the changing patterns of surf not unlike Ansel Adams's surf sequence of 1940.
In addition to the print in the Edward Weston Archive at the Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, Conger locates prints of this image in the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover; the University of California, Los Angeles; and a Project Print at Santa Cruz.
