Condition
This early print, on paper with a surface sheen and on a thin, buff-colored mount, is in generally excellent condition. When examined in raking light, very slight silvering is visible at the periphery.
There is light age-darkening of the mount at the edges, and occasional, light soiling on the front and the back. 'L84.2003.7' and EWP87' are written in unidentified hands in pencil on the reverse.

Catalogue Note
Taken in 1938, while Brett Weston was living in San Francisco, this photograph reflects a new concern with longer views of the city. Much of his earlier work had consisted of details and abstractions, whereas here, Brett has pulled back to include the roofs and poles of his new urban environment, which are echoed in the clouds above. Other images from his years in San Francisco were included in his 1939 portfolio, entitled simply San Francisco.
