Catalogue Note
Graphic artist and painter Louise Marie ('Lou') Loeber (1894-1983) trained at Rijksacademie Amsterdam 1915 - 1918. Her work shows the influence of Piet Mondriaan and other De Stijl artists. After traveling to Berlin and Dessau in 1927, Loeber was greatly inspired by the work of Wassily Kandinsky. The work here offered was inspired by a mural by Gerd Arntz at the Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum in Vienna. Loeber probably saw an illustration of this work by Arntz, an artist of strong socialist conviction like herself, in Wendingen magazine (no. 9, 1930)
