Catalogue Note

A celebrated poem extolling the thanks due to the supplier of the book which satisfies all needs - a quatrain which might take pride of place on the wall above the desk of any librarian or bookseller. A copy of the letter in the hand of Eckermann, Goethe's secretary, who has also authenticated the poem on the verso, is preserved in Weimar in the Klassik Stiftung, Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv.
