4 volumes, 4to (220 x 153mm.), half-titles, 4 engraved divisional titles dated 1787 and 298 (of 301) costumes plates, all hand-coloured, some plates and some gatherings printed on blue paper, contemporary mottled calf gilt, spines gilt in compartments, many uncut edges, lacking 3 plates, the 8-page 'Discours préliminaire' at the beginning of volume 1 and 4 leaves (one from each volume with a list of the people illustrated), some text leaves lightly browned
