Catalogue Note
Henry Bond, who by the time he wrote The boat-swaines art in the early 1660s, had some thirty years experience as a teacher of applied mathematics, provides "an exact method and direction for the masting, yarding and rigging of any ship whatsoever" for potentially ham-fisted youths.
Thomas Miller's work on rigging first appeared in 1660. The compleat modellist was also bound with The boat-swaines art in a sammelband in the Macclesfield Library (see Macclesfield, Applied Arts and Sciences, lot 3368).
