Catalogue Note
A curious and interesting volume composed in equal parts of manuscript and printed text of the breviary of the use of Regensburg, compiled in the late fifteenth century from various printed sheets of the breviary and bound at that time with the manuscript infill sheets. It seems from the nature of the additions that the breviary was deliberately doctored in order to make its use more appropriate; the substantial manuscript additions in many different hands indicate probable ownership (and regular use) by a Franciscan house in Regensburg.
This first edition of the Regensburg breviary is rare: ISTC lists 7 copies, of which 3 are imperfect. The printed sections in this copy do not contain any woodcuts.
