Catalogue Note
The former Bolshevik, and loyal Stalinist, V. Adoratsky (1878-1945) became director of the Marx-Engels Institute in February 1931. In November of that year, this institution was merged with the Lenin Institute to form the Marx-Engels-Lenin Institute. After this time, the main function of the institute - which now came under the direct control of the party - ceased to be research and became instead education and propaganda.
