folio (307 x 209mm.), woodcut Aldine device on title-page and final verso (otherwise blank), Greek text, woodcut initials and headpieces, woodcut diagrams, seventeenth-century speckled vellum, spine with gilt monogram altep in each compartment, title-leaf very slightly soiled, upper joint cracked at foot, small stain on lower cover

Provenance

Alexandre Petau, engraved armorial bookplate. Petau (d. 1672) and his father Paul (1568-1614), both conseillers to the Parlement of Paris and scholars, were considerable collectors of books and manuscripts. They owned many medieval manuscripts (particularly those of the Abbey at Fleury) and some books from Grolier's library; a thousand or so of the manuscripts were bought by Queen Christina of Sweden and later came to rest in the Vatican Library, and the remaining printed books were sold in The Hague in 1722.
