Provenance
Bibliotheca Sedanensis, inscription at head of title-page. The Académie de Sedan was founded in 1599 along the lines of Calvin's Academy in Geneva, and was suppressed in 1681.

Rivault's magisterial edition of Archimedes, containing the Greek text (taken from the editio princeps of 1544; see lot 44), a Latin translation and some of the ancient commentaries, was used by seventeenth-century scholars such as Fermat and Descartes.
