Catalogue Note
An important work in the history of German expressionist book illustration. Kirchner was a founder member of the group Die Brücke, which developed German Expressionism by attempting to link older artists such as Dürer and Cranach with the present; as a result, not surprisingly, woodcuts became one of the primary media for Expressionist artists.
