Catalogue Note
The so-called States-General Bible was comissioned by the National Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church in Dordrecht in 1618. However, the translation was not completed, revised and approved until October 1635. Paulus Aertsz van Ravesteyn from Amsterdam set up a printing business in Leiden specifically to print the book. The printing was completed in the summer of 1637. Van Ravesteyn's widow published a new edition, with notes by the translators as well as the engraved maps, in 1657 and it is in this form, here represented by a slightly later edition, that the States-Bible reached its zenith.
