Acquired directly from the artist by the husband of the present owner circa 1951.

Condition

Slight pigment separation and cracquelure in dark areas lower half. Scattered, isolated areas of cracquelure. Abrasion at upper edges and bottom right corner with associated loss.

Catalogue Note

Jean Garrigue (1914-1972) was a popular and infuential American poet, establishing a reputation with her first publication, The Ego and the Centaur (1947).  She was a friend of Larry Rivers, whose circle famously included poets, writers and jazz musicians.  The original owner of this work was a jazz musician.
