Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. The surface is clean and the canvas is well-stretched. There is some evidence of wear at the edges and isolated areas of fine craquelure at the pull margins. The media accretions and surface nuances are inherent to the artist's working method. There are some isolated areas located approximately 8 in. from the top and 38 in. from the left edge, which fluoresce under UV light. This work is framed.

Catalogue Note
The mind has an eye of its own. With some of these paintings you can't see them the same way twice because the picture actually changes as you look at it. Look at the painting. Does it have a point of view or various points of view? Oehlen's paintings seem to continue to evolve after he leaves them. Paintings are dated. A good painting's date is not when it's completed but when it begins its work.
