Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is deeper and richer, with the white tending more towards dark shades of grey and the bright red tending more towards muted red in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There is light wear to all four corner tips and to some of the tips of the metal pegs, as well as in some places along the overturn edges, with a few associated extremely minor, tiny chips to the wood. There are light rub marks to the bottom two and top right-hand corners and a small spot of media adhering to the surface of the top right corner edge and to the bottom left-hand corner. There is some wood-loss in the areas surrounding some of the pegs, original to the work's execution and only visible upon close inspection. There is light surface dust beneath the wire mesh.

Catalogue Note

Manuel Rivera's Espejo Herido and Conrad Marca-Relli's The Woman of Samura are offered from one of the most interesting collections in Germany, the Hoh Collection.

In the relatively short period of 15 years, Alfred and Elisabeth Hoh brought together major works from the main movements of the European avant-garde.

They were especially interested in researching the complexity between Expressionism, Cubism, Symbolism, Orphism, Constructivism and the Neue Sachlichkeit in Europe. In rediscovering artists who had been neglected for a long time, Alfred and Elisabeth Hoh had a unique way of collecting art.
