Catalogue Note

Yoko Ono's appearances at the ICA include the first screening, in
1968, of Film No.4 (in Taking the Bottoms of 365 Saints of Our Time),
1966, which featured John Lennon's bottom among others. In
2004 the ICA presented Yoko Ono's Odyssey of a Cockroach, an
ambitious installation taking the form of a theatrical mise-en-scène,
enacting the experience of a cockroach making its way through the
city of New York.

For the ICA 60th anniversary auction Yoko Ono has donated My
Mommy Is Beautiful
, 1997. The piece is part of a group of works
featuring two images, one of a breast and one of a vulva. My Mommy
is Beautiful
is characteristic of an aspect of Ono's work since the
90s – its exploration of personal memory, and of the artist's own
experiences as a daughter, partner, mother and woman

"I have many fond memories of the ICA, which included me in their very prestigious exhibitions at a time when it was very controversial to include me. Thank you. I never forget you. Love, Yoko."(Yoko Ono, 2008)
