Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the paper tone tends more towards cream in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. It is hinged to the backing board in several places on the reverse. All edges of the sheet are deckled. There is an extremely small spot of discolouration to the centre right of the bottom edge and a very light handling crease to the top left corner, both visible only upon very close inspection.

Catalogue Note

Chris Ofili featured in the exhibition Surprise Surprise at the ICA
in 2006. He has generously donated a new drawing for the ICA's 60th
anniversary auction, entitled Afrotranslinear Two, 2007-08. The
artist's fantastical paintings touch on a variety of sources from art
and popular culture, including comic-book heroes, pornography,
jazz, hip hop and Blaxploitation movies. The donated work is
typical of Ofili's pencil drawings, which employ delicate,
psychedelic patterns.
