Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is much brighter and richer in the original. Condition: Artist's frame: The frame is in very good condition. There are several tiny specks of paint loss to the diagonal join in the top left hand corner. Canvas: The canvas is in very good condition. There is minor wear to the lower left, lower right and upper left hand corners. There are hairline tension cracks intermittently along all four extreme edges. There are staple marks along the bottom edge of the lower left quadrant with associated paint losses. There is a staple mark and loss to the bottom turnover edge approximately 45cm. along from the lower right hand corner. There are several minute specks of paint loss in the brown shell of the left creature. There are a few faint rub marks towards the lower left hand corner. There is a further tiny rub mark towards the centre of the bottom edge in the green paint. There is slight canvas draw towards the top left hand corner. There is a light layer of dust along the top turnover edge. There are two small media accretions towards the top edge, one approximately 40cm. from the top right corner and the second approximately 10cm. to the left of this. There are several unobtrusive horizontal and vertical crease lines that appear to be original to the work's execution. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.
