Condition
Colour:
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the red in the top right part of the composition tends more towards rich crimson and the white of the backdrop to cream in the original. There is a greater variation of colours around the edges of the red pigment in the lower left and right hand quadrants.
Condition:
This work is in very good condition. There are a few tiny media specks to the white parts of the canvas and faint handling marks to the left and right vertical edges. A number of very small rub marks are visible: a few very small marks to the right extreme edge, a small vertical mark to the lower part of the left extreme edge, a tiny rub mark to the top right corner and a few further very faint and tiny rub marks to the upper left corner. There is a tiny surface indentation to the lower centre of the lower left quadrant and two parallel fine hairline surface cracks approx 15 cm up from the lower right corner. Upon close examination there are a number of extreme fine and isolated hairline drying cracks to each extreme overturn edge and a tiny surface irregularity to the white pigment towards the upper part of the left edge. No restoration is apparent under ultraviolet light.
