Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonlaity is slightly deeper and richer, with the black tending more towards very dark green and the blue of the frame more to electric blue. The catalogue illustration fails to fully convey the depth of the frame and the purple border around the inside edge of the frame in the original is not visible. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Close inspection reveals a few fine short and stable surface cracks to the upper left and right extreme corner tips of the frame. There are a few minute losses to the yellow pigment in places along the top and bottom edges and several tiny pigment specks are visible on close inspection to each frame edge. A few minute fly spots are visible on close examination: to the upper left of the top right quadrant, in the lower left quadrant and a few isolated specks elsewhere. There are some extremely light rub marks to a few places on the extreme edges of the panel, two further light marks towards the left side of the upper right quadrant and a further spot beneath the centre of the top edge. In raking light on close examination there are a few tiny pinprick-sized pale and unobtrusive media accretions in the upper left quadrant. Some light surface dirt has collected in the recesses of the frame edges. No restoration is apparent under ultraviolet light.
