Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined and is in good, stable condition. PAINT SURFACE The paint surface is generally sound. There is extensive craquelure throughout and this has started to seperate in the lower left corner; this is currently stable and there is no sign of lifting. ULTRAVIOLET UV light reveals traces of old overpainting in the sky and scattered areas of infilling to the horse's neck and body and in the lower left corner. Some spots of strengthening to the rider's costume. FRAME Held in a plaster gilt frame in fair condition.
