Condition
The canvas has been lined. There is a weave of craquelure to the paint surface, which is characteristic for the age of the painting. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals some extensive retouching to the background curtain. There is infilling of lines of craquelure to the sitter's dress, to the right hand background and to the sitter's left forearm. There is evidence of some retouching to old vertical stretcher marks. Held a decorative composite frame, slightly worn.
Held in a carved wood frame.
