Condition
A striking and decorative pair by this major designer. Of good overall appearance. With a darker patina than the catalogue illustration suggests. With one original key. Minor old marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Pieces have been re-polished. Very slight wear to the oxidised finish to mounts.
Enamels in good overall condition with typical minor and not noticeable crazing. Very small chip in the top right corner to the left hand plaque to one cabinet, and tiny corner chips to the top left and bottom right of the right hand plaque in this cabinet. All are negligible and not detrimental. Small 2cm by 2cm area of veneer loss to back left base support of this cabinet but hidden when placed. Interiors each with two adjustable shelves, with typical minor scratches through use.
Overall these cabinets are in very good condition and are ready for use and display.

Catalogue Note
The cabinet maker Eugène Printz (1889-1948) collaborated with several designers. The furniture produced jointly with Jean Serrière (1893-1965) date to the last part of Printz's career. These pieces are made in exotic woods such as rosewood or ebony; furthermore they reflect a new source of Printz's inspiration. The forms are reminiscent of Renaissance furniture, though the shapes are further simplified and reduced.
