Description

  • Two Roman Marble Sculptures
  • Heights 9 5/8 and 5 1/2 in. 24.4 and 14 cm.
comprising a figure of Asklepios, the god standing with his weight on the left leg and his left hand on his hip, and wearing a himation falling from his left shoulder and draped around the waist, holes for ancient restorations at the neck and behind the left leg, traces of iron tenons at the arms, and a head of a child, turned to his right, with parted lips, incised irises with double-dotted pupils, and unruly wavy hair parted in the center and falling in deeply-drilled curls over the temples and nape of the neck, the neck carved for insertion into a statue.
