Description

  • A Bronze Furniture Support
  • Height 4 3/8 in. 11.2 cm.
in the form of Pappasilenos emerging from a three-petaled calyx on top of a four-clawed animal foot, his hands flanking his prominent belly, with swirling tuft of hair at the navel, long moustache, divided wavy beard, snub nose, and gnarled brow, his long animal ears flopping onto his shoulders, a hole at the back of the head for insertion of the furniture leg.

Condition

proper right claw repaired, note chip to foot and casting flaw between central claws, tip of proper left calyx leaf broken off in antiquity, surface is slightly worn and appears to have been waxed, otherwise good and as shown
