Description

  • A Marble Head of Dionysos, Roman Imperial
  • Height 8 3/4 in. 22.2 cm.
inspired by a Greek original of the later 4th Century B.C., the youthful god turned slightly to his right, his centrally parted hair surmounted by a massive wreath of grapevine and bound in a chignon above the nape of the neck.

Condition

as shown, note abrasions and chips to chin, mouth, nose, proper right eye and front of hair, minor chips elsewhere, entire surface is somewhat worn and appears to have been acid cleaned, remains of grayish incrustation especially along proper right side of hair
