Description

  • Length: 49.5 cm
carved in hardwood of ovoid form and plano-convex section, the front with raised design decorated in white earth pigment on a red ground, painted at each end in black pigment, the reverse with related designs in black and white pigment and deep-cut lug handle

Condition

There are no visible repairs or restoration to the shield, although there are many areas of pigments loss and wear to the shield. There are possible traces of a long since applied varnish or chelac.
