- Length: 55.5 cm
this early example carved in hardwood of elongated ovoid form, the front engraved with broadly fluted linear designs divided into three sections to form a zig-zag motif, infilled alternately with vibrant pink and orange synthetic pigments, pierced near the upper right for bush repair with kangaroo sinew, the reverse with parallel fluted design and decorated with four bands of orange and pink pigment, and loop handle
Condition
The shield is an early example which has been worn down through years of use. There is an old crack on thh right hand side approximatley 20 cm long qhich has been repaired with kangaroo sinew and a hairline crack in the centre of the face. The western pigments have suffered many areas of loss.
