Description

  • Height: 84 cm
carved in fig wood, of ovoid form and biconvex section, the front with raised boss decorated in traditional motifs in orange, yellow and white earth pigments outlined in black, the reverse undecorated with raised loop handle, replete with roughly hewn adze markings

Condition

The shield is in sound condition though there is evidence of insect infestation in the past. According to the Macha documentation this shield was treated with methyl-bromide in November 1984. The pigmented decoration appears to have been repainted at some point in its' history and is in a stable condition
