Catalogue Note

Here he captures the Royal Mile, with its grand set pieces of ecclesiastical architecture rearing above the high sixteenth century tenements.  It is so typical of his work that he should have included a building under scaffolding, which allows him an almost Piranesian flight of fantasy.
