The work is on wove paper which has not been laid down. The sheet is attached to the mount by two pieces of tape in the upper left and right corners. The left edge of the sheet is quite rough and dirty, and small sections of the edge have been torn, although this is disguised by the mount. The sheet undulates slightly across the surface. The sheet has been light stained.

Catalogue Note
This is a late work in which the artist vividly and rapidly captures the essence of this busy Sussex town. The drawing is now highly evocative of times past, when motor cars were few and county towns blissfully empty of endless signs.
