Condition

Overall fair original condition. The fans showing signs of wear consistent with age as seen in the catalogue illustration. The fans with surface scratches, minor tears, bending and separations. The paper of the fans has become very fragile. The fans appear to have darkened slightly in color with age. The bamboo and wooden elements with some minor warping. The chandelier is without a lighting agent, and was likely designed for a suspended lightbulb.

This hanging light was part of series of similar works executed by Maurer in the mid 1970s incorporating uchiwa fans made by craftsmen from the Bay of Marugame, Japan.
