Condition
Generally very good original condition. Rubbing and losses to the patina and cold painting as expected and is evident in the catalogue illustration. The ivory selection was well executed for this model and has very little visible grain with a dense fairly uniform porcelainous appearance. There are a few fine vertical cracks to the face and hands as expected but do not detract from the composition. Some minor edge roughness and chips to the onyx base. The onyx base rests on an additional plinth base comprised of two marbleized pieces of wood. By family tradition this is how the piece has been configured for at least the past 45 years. It maybe original or added slightly later to give the work additional dramatic height. The wooden base is not fused to the onyx and would be easily removed if desired, it would merely require the reduction of the threaded rods that run from the bronze, through the onyx and into the wood. There is some surface dirt but otherwise in untouched condition.
