  • signed with fly device; also signed, dated 1969 and inscribed on a label attached to the reverse: Oh Jane, I must tell you about Miss Carter (who wore pink) "They say she's fainted again" said Mary Jane Ormrod. "I'm sure she should see Dr McVean" I'll tell you what we'll do' said Mother "We'll call round and see her on our way back" but 'hush' look who's coming' 'Florence" John Sam'els wife and you know how she talks" so Aunt Mary said in a loud voice - " I see youve washed your patchwork quilt and its a good day to get it dry" so while the aunts, mother & Grandma chatted George & I watched Edna Mary Ornrod playing at being a May Queen. Oh, I said with envy "Doesnt she look beautiful" - "They look silly" said George, "dressed in those old lace curtains", and the year was 1906

Condition

The work appears to be in its original condition. Held in a decorative gilt wood and plaster frame with a white inlay. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching to the dress of the central figure, the basket, horse and to the left hand washing line pole.
