Catalogue Note
'Gertler revelled in 'running about (Paris) seeing pictures' and was 'especially interested in Picasso's latest development', he wrote to Ottoline. Post war Paris had seen a great interest in classical revival, and Picasso had caught the general mood in the rounded figures of his neo-classical women. These fleshy female forms inspired Gertler, and paintings such as Adolescence and Pomona may well have been influenced by his stay in Paris'.
