Catalogue Note
The firm was located at 8, Rue Charlot, Paris, in 1860, and was later known as Lemerle-Charpentier circa 1870 to 1890. They exhibited mantle clocks, similar to the present lot, and other decorative art objects at the Paris Expositon Universelle of 1878, but the star piece of their stand was an impressive example of Piat's grande horloge, an example of which sold Sotheby's, New York, April 26, 2006, lot 105, for $329,600.
