Condition
Overall good condition, the gilt-bronze clean and with some minor areas of oxidation and wear consistent with age and use. The marble base in good condition with very minor wear to the edges. The trumpet is a later replacement made of resin. Gilding possibly later.

Catalogue Note
La Renomée is a variation on the figure depicting literary fame which Barrias created as part of his monument to Victor Hugo (completed in 1902; destroyed in 1942). Barrias exhibited the independent statuette in silver and ivory at the Paris Salon in 1902. From around 1893, the Susse foundry offfered Barrias' La Renomée in bronze casts, as well as examples with the head, arms and legs in ivory.
