in rococo style, comprising an oval shell-form bowl with liner supported by two twin-tailed mermaids, the mirror plateau with rim decorated with crabs, shells and seaweed, all with maker's mark and stamped maker's name, plateau numbered 1789738

Catalogue Note

The centerpiece and plateau were designed in 1900 as part of Christofle's "surtout marin".  A similar centerpiece and plateau were sold with a pair of candelabra Sotheby's, New York, 14 April 2008, lot 36.
