Catalogue Note
The original model sculpted by Pigalle in 1749 depicts Armand Louis Joseph de Montmartel (1748-1781), marquis de Brunoy, the only son of Jean Pâris de Montmartel (1690-1766), godfather of Madame de Pompadour. So popular was the subject that a reduction of the model in Sèvres biscuit porcelain was made in 1777.
