the padded backrests centered by a rose wreath, with acanthus scrolled armrests and pink and yellow silk damask upholstery, one armchair with the metallic label inscribed Ameublements de style / Meubles, Sieges, Tentures / A. HUGNET FABRICANT / 69 Faubourg St. Antoine. Paris.
Condition
Both chairs are steady. Areas of redecoration to carved elements, rose and acanthus carving. Extensive losses to gilding in places mostly to the backsides now showing gesso. Extensive wear to armrests. Overall in good condition with the usual minor scratches, dents and nicks to veneers and carcass consistent with age and use.

Alexandre Hugnet was active in Paris after taking over his father's business and collaborated with his brother under the company name Hugnet Frères. Alexandre won a medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle.
