Catalogue Note

The firm of Gübelin was founded in Lucerne, Switzerland by Mauritz Breitschmid on October 4, 1854. Under the leadership of his son-in-law, Jakob Eduard Gübelin, the firm flourished as Lucerne became a tourist center. The company moved to larger premises at Schweizer Hofquai in 1903. Following the appointment of his son, Eduard Gübelin, as director in 1925, the firm began to produce unusual high quality clocks in small numbers.
